Welcome to one of London’s oldest Indian restaurants

Tower Tandoori is a local institution and a jewel in Bermondsey’s culinary crown. In its early years, it was frequented by curry-goers from all over the country. Many famous faces have spent an evening at the Tower and it’s not a surprising sight to see politicians, actors or sports personalities dining at the next table.

In the 80’s, it was probably the first Indian restaurants to use TV adverts for marketing on Channel 4. It was possibly one of the first Indian restaurants to advertise on football stadium signboards (Millwall FC). It is the only restaurant to set a precedent case in the English Legal System after successfully opposing a local business’s attempt to copy the Tower Tandoori name.

The business was set up in 1978 by a young entrepreneur, Mr. Ali who was also one of East London’s first Bangladeshi landlords. Sadly, in 1989 Mr. Ali passed away leaving his business to his two sons, Burhan and Shab Uddin. The brothers worked hard throughout their working lives to sustain their father’s legacy.

Today, the business is run by Mr. Ali’s grandsons, the third generation of the family. Even today, the values and ethos that existed decades ago continue and even in today’s competitive environment, the Tower Tandoori remains at the forefront.

The family are thankful to all the customers, patrons, friends and staff who have supported the Tower Tandoori for over four decades.
